Before coming to Belgrade
HEALTH INSURANCE
Please note that health insurance during your studies in Belgrade is compulsory. Students are strongly advised to purchase an international health insurance in their own country, with which they can obtain the standard medical treatment in Serbia free of charge. Without international health insurance, students from some countries can access urgent medical aid only, provided that they bring along to Serbia a document that applies to their country of origin. Detailed information on such countries and applicable documents is available here.
VISA
If you wish to study in Serbia, prior to your arrival check here if you require a visa. In case you have any doubt regarding visa issues, please contact Serbian Embassy in your country. The list of Serbian Embassies and consular missions you can find here.
EU citizens can enter Serbia without a visa. If you are EU citizen and wish to stay up to 90 days, no visa or residence permit is required. However, if you wish to stay more than 90 days (e.g. semestral exchange), you can either enter Serbia without a visa and then apply for the temporary residence permit (online or in person), or apply for a visa (type D) before arrival. Although EU citizens can enter Serbia with their ID card it is recommended that you use a passport.
If you need a visa to enter Serbia you must apply from the Serbian Embassy in your country of residence. In case of being accepted, please start with handling your legal status immediately. It may take more than a month to gain a visa. We will provide a Letter of Invitation for the purpose of issuing a visa. Detailed information for Serbian visa policy and requirements is given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Serbia.
Passport
Make sure you have a passport, valid for the entirety of your planned time on exchange plus an additional six months after your planned return.
ACCOMMODATION
The University of Arts is placed at the heart of the old historical centre of Belgrade. Therefore, our university is without a campus or other student-housing facilities. The University does not provide exchange students with housing in Belgrade. However, we will do our best to assist you in finding the place to stay. The International Office at your chosen faculty will help you to book accommodation at the Student Residence or assist with private housing.
We recommend that exchange students prepare their stay in Belgrade in advance.
BUDDY SUPPORT
ESN student organisation in Belgrade runs a ‘buddy’ scheme that connects new students with buddies. Buddies are existing students who volunteer their time to share their experiences and offer extra support to new students. Your buddy may help you to prepare your stay, meet you on your arrival and help you to involve with the social aspects of university life while you are in Belgrade.
