Erasmus+ Mobility for Teaching at:
Conservatory of Music of Vigo
In mid-November, I had the distinct pleasure of immersing myself in the unique atmosphere of the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo. This enriching experience unfolded over five days, creating a mosaic of musical exchange and pedagogical exploration that has left an indelible mark on my professional journey.
An Artistic Palette: Collaborating with Cellists and a String Quartet
During my stay, I had the privilege of working closely with the Conservatory’s talented students, focusing primarily on cellists and a dynamic string quartet. The cellists delved into a diverse repertoire, ranging from solo works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Gaspar Cassadó to sonatas by Luigi Boccherini and Ludwig van Beethoven. The chamber ensemble showcased Eduard Toldrà’s evocative “Vistas al mar,” a piece previously unknown to me but profoundly captivating.
Pedagogical Discourse: Shaping Artistic Expression
Engaging with these young musicians went beyond technicalities; it was a shared exploration of artistic expression. Discussions spanned the intricacies of left and right-hand techniques, the nuances of tone quality, the art of listening to inner voices, and the quest for enduring melodic expressions. Together, we navigated rhythmic complexities and tackled intonational challenges. The visible progress made by the students in this short period served as a testament to their dedication and fueled their motivation for further practice.
Cultural Exchange: Conversations with Colleagues
Beyond the classroom, I seized the opportunity to exchange experiences and engage in stimulating conversations about art with fellow musicians in Vigo. Notable moments were shared with Mr. Esteban Valverde, the Conservatory’s director and an accomplished clarinetist, and cellist Ms. Susana Blanco-Novoa. These interactions fostered connections and laid the foundation for future collaborations and friendships.
Erasmus Project: A Catalyst for Musical Diversity
The Erasmus project, under the capable leadership of Mr. Jose Luís Fernández, played a pivotal role in facilitating this enriching experience. The project not only supports international collaboration but also contributes to the diversity of students at the Conservatory. Witnessing its success and seeing students from the former Yugoslavia participating added an extra layer of significance to my time in Vigo.
Reflections: Nurturing Artistic Growth
Collaborations between educational institutions like these significantly enhance the quality of musical education. Students, hungry for new insights, bring fresh perspectives and eagerness to learn. Simultaneously, each new student challenges the teacher to innovate, creating unique pathways for sharing accumulated knowledge. It is in these moments of collaboration that both students and teachers experience profound artistic and personal growth.
Conclusion: A Symphony of Inspiration
In conclusion, my five days in Vigo were more than a teaching experience—they were a symphony of inspiration. As I bid farewell to the talented students and dedicated colleagues, I eagerly anticipate future collaborations of a similar nature. The journey continues, fueled by the harmonies of Vigo and the shared passion for musical exploration.
