Conference “The Performativity of Politics in Digital Media, Arts, and Culture” was held from October 16 to 19, 2024
The conference “The Performativity of Politics in Digital Media, Arts, and Culture” was held in collaboration between the University of Arts in Belgrade and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire from October 16 to 19, 2024.
The main goal of the conference was to connect scientific research with artistic research practices. The focus was on the digital world, including all aspects of contemporary online and hybrid artistic and cultural expression: multimedia, electronic media, social media, YouTube (and other video platforms such as Vimeo, Dailymotion, Instagram Reels, etc.), gaming, live theater, and film. This topic also allowed further exploration of the comparatively uncharted terrain of the performativity of political narratives in digital media and within the structures of the digital space.
The conference gathered 60 participants from three continents who presented their work live at the University of Arts and online in three parallel sessions over four days.
In addition to a large number of distinguished participants from around the world, special attention was drawn to lectures and discussions with Lev Manovich, Maria Jose Martinez, Agata Lulkowska, Paola Botham, and Aleksandar Dunđerović.
The conference also included a promotion of the book “Placeness and the Performative Production of Space” by Prof. Dr. Aleksandar Dunđerović and Prof. Dr. Maria Sanchez.
The conference was organized by Prof. Dr. Aleksandar Dunđerović and Prof. Dr. Paola Botham from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and Prof. DA Ivan Pravdić from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, with support from the University of Arts in Belgrade.
